Saints want to be Golden Girls

The St. Clair women's basketball team has had one goal all season; get back to the provincial championship game and win it. The Saints were six points shy of winning gold a year ago against Fanshawe and have not forgotten the agony of defeat.

"We know what we want and we're just gonna work hard for it" said 2nd year guard Noor Bazzi.

St. Clair went 14-4 to finish 3rd in the west division. The Saints placed third in the OCAA's final rankings. George Brown were ranked 6th in the province with a 13-3 record in the East. The Saints are looking to add gold to their modest collection of medals that include two silvers. If they can pull it off they'll advance to the National Championships on Vancouver Island March 18th.

The College ran promotions that packed the gym this season giving the Saints a taste of the atmosphere they'll be playing in this weekend.

"I think it helped us prepare for this weekend coming up, said 3rd year guard Logan Kucera.

Head coach Andy Kiss has his daughter Andrea on the bench as an assistant coach this season. Andrea was a player at the University of Windsor who toasted a USport championship. She hoisted the Bronze Baby at the St. Denis Centre in 2014 and has been a resource for the Saints heading into the tournament.

"It's very sweet to win at home. There's nothing else like it" said Kiss.

St. Clair and George Brown tip off Friday night at 6 at the Sportsplex.
