Meet Krista Nichol, St. Clair volleyball

St. Clair Saints women's volleyball head coach Jimmy El-Turk is bringing in three players (Krista Nichol, Kate Williams and Annastasia Droppert) he thinks will impact the performance of his team next season.

"We have roster needs at both Outside Hitter and Middle Blocker so Krista and Anna should both have opportunities to contribute. We are deep at the setter position but Kate is also very talented so it will be tough not to find her playing time to help with her growth before she takes over the reigns. As with all of our first year athletes, we try not to burden them with pressure to perform early in the season as they get adjusted to living on their own and the demands of post secondary education, but they can certainly earn playing time if they can perform in practices and exhibition.

Get to know Krista Nichol in a note she wrote to Powerplay Sports.

"I suppose I should start with the basics. My name is Krista Nichol, I go to Westmount Secondary School and I live in Hamilton Ontario. In August, I will be moving to a new city, 3 hours away from my work, friends and family. It’s definitely a scary concept, but I’m really fortunate to have my teammate and good friend Anna coming with me. My volleyball career began in grade 6 when I tried out for my elementary school team, the Ray Lewis Legends. I remember after we lost a playoff game, I got into my dads work truck and told him I wanted to keep playing volleyball and that I wanted to be the best I could be. This is when I began my career for Hamilton Smash Volleyball Club, now named Smash Raiders VC. I have played for this club since 13U and now I will be closing my club career with them in 18U. I have been extremely fortunate to have always had coaches that pushed me to be my best, and always challenged me. My process for choosing St. Clair was quite simple really. I got an email from coach Jimmy, I did my research, I visited the campus and I fell in love with the atmosphere. I watched a few highlight videos and I could feel the energy through my phone. I know I will feel at home at St. Clair and I’m truly elated to be playing for them".
